I wish I could respond to Ryan who had a bad experience at SBRGC. Ryan you expressed an interest in becoming an RSO. I would encourage you to continue to pursue this and be the light for others. Everyone is human and we are all volunteers. There are so many volunteers and we volunteer when we can. Some more than others. It seems you had a good of experience for some time and had a bad experience. Please don’t let this ruin your day and passion for this range and site. There are a lot of great people - maybe give it another “shot” 🙏😁 with much respect. Break… I recently called about the drive (road conditions) to the range and the city is going to grade it after the rains - looking at possibly end of November / beginning of December. These roads are not the best and having ball joints on my car replaced. So take your time and enjoy the scenery - make it a positive experience. You’d be surprise to see all the wild animals when you cruise at slow speeds. 😁
Never coming back. I don't think I’ve ever left a negative review on any platform for anything ever. I’ll never feel good about leaving a one star review but if this is how this range operates, potential patrons need to be informed before buying a membership like I did. I used to have a membership at SBRGC back between about 2019-2021 and remembered it being a great range with varying options for different types of firearms platforms to train with. I decided to reinstate my membership this August (2025). Since August of 2025 I have driven between 40 minutes to 1 hour on 4 different occasions, 3 of which I was told I wouldn’t be able to shoot on any range other than Range 6. The minimum distance of Range 6 is 50 yards. I had to leave each time because I arrived with the intention of shooting mostly handguns, shotguns, or closer range rifles. I understand that on the website it informs you that just because the calendar doesn’t specify if a range is closed on a particular day, it doesn’t mean that the range you desire is actually open due to staffing. With that being said, it's difficult to understand why that is the case when I show up and there are 4 RSO’s at only Range 6 hanging out at the check-in counter who tell me the other ranges are closed. I’ll never understand how a shooting range makes it so difficult to show up and shoot. So let’s say you actually get to shoot when you show up. The one time this year I was able to actually shoot, I was met with confrontational and somewhat hostile RSO’s who seemed like they wanted to challenge your firearm knowledge for no reason. Ive been shooting for over two decades and some of them seem like they wanted you to know that you are junior to them. I thought this was just one guy having a bad day, but I was consistently met with this attitude when I would come back the next three times without even being able to shoot. Instead of making patrons sign a safety waiver to release liability to the shooter, they do not allow drawing from the holster for any reason even to my Law Enforcement friends (unless you are an RSO). I initially bought my membership and decided I wanted to volunteer to become an RSO. Now after driving out there 3 times where I was sent home immediately and mistakenly thinking I would be enjoying a nice range day, not only do I not have that desire but I’ve decided to never spend another 2 hours driving out to Dulzura and back for nothing.

Great place to go shooting! Way better than any indoor place in the San Diego Area. Staff is friendly as well as the community. Highly recommend! However, if you go here things you should keep in mind. 1. You should have your own equipment! Eyes, Ears, Ammunition, fire arms. when i visited i didn't see a place to rent any of those things. you should put on your safety equipment when you get out of your car. Based on what i can tell they don't have any rules of needing to wear any eyes or ears, just says "highly recommend" 2. the road to access this place is dirt and really bumpy. if you have a vehicle with stiff suspension, highly suggest against taking that vehicle or take your sweet time going through that dirt road. 3. if you're from the coming north e.g any place north of Jamul Casino. There is a boarder patrol the checkpoint when you go back north on canyon road. So you should make sure you're practice proper gun vehicle storage. 4. You should bring your own targets. they offer 1 free target per person, however, trying to get more may get tricky when it comes to payment. from what i can tell the only place that offers payment is range 6.
